Rikolto B.V. is SCOPEinsight’s newest Local Expert

We are excited to announce that we are advancing our partnership with Rikolto by bringing them in as the newest member of our Local Expert Network. This partnership combines a set of evidence-based methods and data-led tools to help producers (including agribusinesses) engage more effectively in local, regional, and global markets. In turn, this will enhance farmers’ capacity to innovate and compete, increase their household income, and ultimately improve their livelihoods.

Renown for expertise in inclusive business

Rikolto is a leader in inclusive business that meets the needs of farmers and buyers alike. For more than 40 years, Rikolto has been committed to empowering farmer groups and implementing future-proof sustainable practices. Rikolto’s expertise relies on bringing farmers, through their organizations, towards a higher level of professionalism to build sustainable livelihoods based on farming activities.

A joint history of impact

Our work with Rikolto began in 2015 when Rikolto piloted SCOPE assessments in Uganda. Since then, Rikolto has used our solution to help advance inclusive business around the globe (read how Rikolto linked their producer organizations to sandwich giant Subway). In the past several years, Rikolto has conducted over 185 evaluations to help strengthen 136 cooperatives and producer organizations in Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

Rikolto recognizes SCOPE reports as the basis for building the capacity and implementing numerous improvements for agribusinesses. Moreover, Rikolto further promotes the use of our tools by engaging with buyers and financial service providers that wish to obtain objective information on the capacity of farmer organizations with which they are partnering or looking to partner.

Local Experts: the infrastructure producers need

The LEN is a partnership program that – on the one hand, creates value for market players and capacity builders in target countries and – on the other hand, creates value for local businesses. Through the LEN, we attract organizations that share our vision of professionalizing agribusinesses and serve as reliable SCOPE tool implementors. These experts are the much-needed local infrastructure with the capacity to provide ongoing business development support to agribusinesses well beyond donor-funded initiatives. Through partnering with like-minded businesses (Local Experts), we ensure that international capacity builders can efficiently implement their projects while strengthening the local economy.

Rikolto leverages its expertise as a global NGO and combines it with local outreach

To accelerate the pace of Rikolto’s impact, the organization has created a social limited liability enterprise, Rikolto BV, which exists in parallel with the non-profit organization. This new division will allow the organization to provide consultancy services to stakeholders based on their expertise and methodologies. All the proceeds of Rikolto BV are destined to be used for the social purpose of the global Rikolto organization.

At SCOPEinsight, we understand how important it is to have local BDS providers embedded in the market system. Therefore, our relationship with Rikolto is crucial to being able to serve agribusinesses’ needs more effectively.
