Announcing exciting new partnership to support agricultural cooperatives in Uganda
We are proud to announce that the National Alliance of Agricultural Co-operatives in Uganda (NAAC) is the newest member of our Local Expert Network. This partnership will expand our data-led services in Uganda, thus providing better support to local cooperatives. The combination of NAAC’s close relationships with Ugandan cooperatives and our position as an industry standard will help to strengthen the Ugandan agricultural cooperative sector.
NAAC: A nation-wide service provider

NAAC was founded in 2018 as a farmer-owned network of Ugandan agricultural cooperatives. It has been formally registered as a cooperative union since 2019. NAAC seeks to provide customized support services to local cooperatives, amplify their voices, and lobby the government for policies favorable to the agricultural sector. This allows them to bring benefits to their members, who are mostly secondary and tertiary agricultural cooperatives.
We worked with NAAC previously as part of a project to digitalize cooperatives in Uganda for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (MTIC). The project was partially funded by AMEA, in partnership with IFAD. NAAC, along with Agriterra and Rikolto, assessed over 260 cooperatives with the SCOPE Rapid. The assessment results were then used to create a cooperative dashboard for MTIC, which allowed them to segment the cooperatives for future assessments and capacity building.
The Local Expert Network: Global Standard, Local Expertise
The Local Expert Network (LEN) is a partnership program that both creates value for market players and capacity builders in target countries and also creates value for local businesses. Through the LEN, we attract organizations that share our vision of professionalizing agribusinesses and will serve as reliable SCOPE tool implementers. These experts provide the much-needed local infrastructure with the capacity to offer ongoing business development support to agribusinesses, working well beyond donor-funded initiatives. Through partnering with these like-minded businesses, we ensure that international capacity builders can efficiently implement their projects while strengthening the local economy.
A future of continuous impact
Over the course of working together with MTIC to assess Ugandan cooperatives, NAAC grew to understand the SCOPEinsight way of working, and we identified them as an ideal candidate for the Local Expert Network in Uganda. NAAC’s connection with agricultural cooperatives all over the country makes them perfect for follow-up assessments in Uganda in the coming years.
We stand by NAAC’s commitment to provide customized support to agricultural cooperatives in Uganda, and we are proud to welcome them as a new member of our Local Expert Network.
